Who orbits whom

A channel cannot possess the water that flows within it…
their relationship is both a river still and a river wild.
To possess even our own secret
would be to violate the sanctity of the hearts wilderness,
yet we pirouette about this center,
as if “it” contains “us.”
Who orbits whom?
The moon loves the earth,
the earth loves the sun…
their relationships are eternal, perfect,
because they intimately share the blessed gift
of distance.
